Shoulder Season has been a long kept secret of many budget travelers. It’s calmer, cheaper and the best time to ask for free upgrades ?

Long summer days, nice weather and school vacations attract adventure. Educators and parents who want to vacation with their children are limited to school breaks and summer vacation. The repercussions are high fare, crowds and sometimes out of patience locals. Then comes the calm. Shoulder Season, the period before and after high travel season, this is the time to book and visit your dream destination.

5 Reasons You Should Take Advantage of Shoulder Season

 5. Fall Behavior

Sweater and Scarf with a mix of fall treats. Dressing in layers make sense and traveling cozier. I’m always ready to try new desserts anything but pumpkin-spice please. New teas, lattes, hot chocolate, comfort foods from different cultures.

4. Beat the crowds

Besides the value of smaller crowds comes a few other perks. Locals are friendlier since they don’t have to deal with mass crowds and it’s a perfect time for relationship building. Activities that usually require advance reservations are waiting for you with open arms. It’s also a great time to visit an all exclusive resort.

3. Cheap Travel Deals

You can thank the teachers and students for the sales, they make up the bulk of May to August travels in the US and Europe and without them airlines and hotels quickly turn to deals to fill in the gaps. Cruises are also lower and have wayyyyy less people but I must tell you children are on cruises year round, of course way less during shoulder season. My and bff took a 8 day cruise from NYC and had a blast, we creeped outside everyday to see if it was any warmer than the prior day during our sea days to the Bahamas.
Even Airbnb rates are lower, sign up for a new account and get $40 off your 1st stay 🙂 .

2. Chase the Summer

One of my favorite Game of Thrones lines is “winter is coming” but guess what you can always chase summer. If you need some warmth during the winter regions like South East Asia is a good option along with  Hawaii the Caribbean just to name a few.

1. No Expectation and No Explanation

During off season it easier to travel with no care. No expectations just open adventure.
If you want to sit in your hotel room and just watch tv you can with no pressure of seeing sites or taking ton of pictures no one will question you because it was cold outside. Cities like Amsterdam are perfect to explore during shoulder season. If your a musuem lover it’s a good time to visit a popular exhibit. I was able to get same day tickets to the collisuem in Rome with no issue.
I personally like traveling regardless of the season however I’ve gotten my best deals and upgrades during off peak times.
