5 Tips to the Perfect Bucket List
“Before I die I would like to … ” – Said Too Many People
How many times have we heard this? People hear the word bucket list and usually equate it to death when in reality, many of our wildest dreams are meant to be enjoyed over a lifetime. The goal is to actually accomplish our aspirations and dreams; well atleast, I hope that’s everyone’s goal.
Our wildest dreams are meant to be enjoyed over our lifetime.
Why create a bucket list? I actually wrote my first bucket list in elementary school, noting North Carolina and Florida on the list of my top places for travel (North Carolina because my classmates would rave about their summers down south and Florida for Disney World). I can laugh at my list now but in being raised by a single parent from the islands, I only had two travel options: my grandmother’s house or traveling to St. Kitts for the summer. Since creating my first list, my curiosity sparked, allowing me to constantly expand to places full of rich cultures and histories outside of the US and my Caribbean roots. Now I am here 20 years later with more than 30 countries under my belt and owe it all to my bucket list; a list of goals that you have a lifetime to achieve. Without further ado, let’s get started.
If you plan to travel then you need a bucket list! Here are 5 Tips to the Perfect Bucket List:
Here are 5 tips to the Perfect Bucket List:
1. Don’t try to write your bucket list all at once
You can’t do it all at once. Take your time. Don’t be afraid to add on to your list, weekly, monthly or whenever you can
2. Make some easier to achieve than others
Once goal off your bucket list, you’ll be eager to accomplish another. The universe will also help you out.
3. Set Goals & Timelines
Adding goals and timelines to your bucket list helps keep you on track or helps you reevaluate. Break your list down by years, age, family events, whatever works for you
(I have a special section for places I plan to visit in my later years)
4. Get Creative
Think out of the box. ( more and more voyages to Antarctica are popping up)
5. Save your LIST!
Don’t lose all of your hard work. It’s senseless to write it then lose it.
- Tools like Evernote are free and allow you to access your work anytime and anyplace. ( I wrote this in Evernote:)
- Snap a pic!
- Email it to yourself
- Just save your list ! ( you will thank me later)
Last year I only visited ONE destination off my bucket list. I totally forgot about Mexico City and The Galapagos which I can’t wait to visit. It’s so important to save your list to reference, add to, laugh at, question and most importantly check things off!
Bonus: Share your list with someone close for accountability!
